Late Rally by Storm Secures Win
|
The Syracuse Storm picked up a win at Pipers Ballpark, knocking off the Caldwell Chiefs, 2-1. Starting pitcher Frank Butler, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Butler went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 5-10. Donnie Rawling notched his 1st save in 1 chances.
Had Dale Goodman not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Goodman hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Storm.
"It was our day today," Butler told the Syracuse Herald. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
The Storm saw their win-loss record go to 53-42. At the same time, the Chiefs fell to 58-37.
