Late Rally by Tula Secures Win
|
The Chicago Tula did just enough to secure a 2-1 victory over the Louisiana Dragoons at Dragoons War Memorial Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Manuel Nieves, who captured player of the game honors. Jeff Dunn picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-4. Edmond McCord was tagged with the loss. Chicago, at 36-52, sits in 9th place in the Silver A.
The Tula got a big at-bat from first baseman Lorenzo Varela. For the game, Varela went 2-4 with a double. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 106th hit of the season gave Chicago a 1-0 lead.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Varela told a Chicago News reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
