Miguel Angel Martínez pitched a gem to lead Charleston to a 3-0 victory over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. In 6 innings, Martínez surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. The Battery are off to a tough start, getting just their 4th win in 11 games.

It could have been a different outcome for Charleston, had it not been for Joey Coco, the former first overall pick . Coco contributed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put Charleston up, 2-0.

"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Battery manager Matt Hunt. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
