The Eugene Vandals picked up a win at The Coffin, knocking off the Grim Reapers, 5-2. Starting pitcher José Alfaro was an essential part of his team's success. Alfaro, now 3-5, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Julius Spry, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 6th save.
Roberto González helped out the Eugene cause in the top of the ninth inning with a run-scoring triple. For the game, the pinch hitter was 1 for 1 with a triple.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," González said after the game.
Even with the win, the Vandals have a dismal 23-66 record.
