Hawks Prevail, 2-1, Over Alameda
|
Hawks Field was the site of a tense game between the Alameda Airmen and Highwood Hawks.
Highwood Hawks starter Kenneth Ferrell was definitely locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Alameda Airmen, 2-1. Ferrell, the winner, moves to 8-7. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up no walks. Kenny Hunt earned his 21st save in 25 chances.
The Hawks got a big at-bat from catcher Sal Elliott. For the game, Elliott was 2-3 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 36th hit of the season gave Highwood a 2-1 lead.
"The old adage is true," said Elliott. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
The Hawks now own a record of 39-48.
