Thrilling Victory Pushes Airmen Win Streak to 7
|
The Alameda Airmen took Phoenix pitcher Dan Bell's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Hotspur Kiddie Complex. The final score had Alameda getting past the Hotspur U-21, 3-1. Bell went 7.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run, striking out 11. Alameda reliever Barney Padgett was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Brenton Gunter. The Airmen, at 34-21, have now won 7 straight.
Scot Adkins's hit in the top of the 16th was a game-changer. With no one out, he rapped a fastball from Manny Guzmán for a run-scoring single. It put Alameda in front, 2-1.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Adkins. "I like it."
