In a close game at The Voodoo Lounge, the New Orleans Voodoo edged the Philadelphia 1776 BC, 4-3. New Orleans first baseman Orlando Velásquez earned the nod as player of the game. He was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. New Orleans starter Grover Lowdermilk was credited with the win after throwing 101 pitches over 6.1 innings. His record now stands at 7-9. Mark Valle was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 13 of 15 save opportunities.
Velásquez had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 2-2 forkball from Jay Mahabir, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Voodoo a 4-3 lead. It was the 13th home run of the year for Velásquez.
Velásquez told the New Orleans Daily News: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
New Orleans occupies 4th place in the Premier League at 57-48.
