River Rats Beat Visiting Caterpillars, 6-1
|
Patrick Nicolas never let the Caterpillars get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his splitter, to pitch the River Rats to a 6-1 win. Nicolas, now 3-1, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Columbia is 16-8 and Grand Forks, with the loss, 10-14.
Tae-wan Park went 1-2 with 2 walks for Columbia. The 23-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring walk off Martin van der Veen. It was his 4th walk of the season.
"I really like what we did out there today," Nicolas said after the game.
