Mt. Vernon Bulls starter Francisco Rivas was in fine form against the Eugene Vandals at The Riot Zone, leading his team to a 5-3 win. Rivas got the win, improving to 3-1. He allowed 8 hits and walked 2 over 7.1 innings. Rivas allowed 3 earned runs. Picking up the save was Joel Walden, his 6th.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the fourth, with the game tied, Felipe Gonzáles was at the plate when Mt. Vernon scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Bulls to go in front, 4-2.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Gonzáles told the Mt. Vernon Times.
The Vandals, at 4-9, have stumbled out of the gate.
