The Fur Traders had to overcome a fine performance from Reno pitcher Raúl Valdéz to grab a 3-2 win at Tennille Grounds. Valdéz allowed no earned runs over 5 innings. Phillip Donoghue, the winner, improved to 4-6. He held the Silver Sox to 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 6. The save went to Milton Mathews, his 20th this season.
It could have been a different outcome for Tacoma, had it not been for Vance Corkum, the 23-year old center fielder . Corkum contributed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put Tacoma up, 3-1.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Reno manager Emílio Sáenz said following the tough loss.
Tacoma now sits at 41-51, while Reno falls to 52-40.
