Grasshoppers Top Screaming Eagles in Extras
|
The San Bernardino Grasshoppers and Mercer Island Screaming Eagles obliged those fans who came to Field of the Grasshoppers looking for a good time.
The Grasshoppers faced a stiff challenge from Mercer Island pitcher Zion DeBose, but persevered to claim a win at Field of the Grasshoppers. The final score was 5-4. DeBose went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. The winner was Michael Broderson in relief. His record improves to 2-1. James Lendell Basford took the loss.
Late in the game, catcher Wren Driscoll had a big at-bat for San Bernardino. In the bottom of the 15th, he hit a run-scoring double off James Lendell Basford. The play gave the Grasshoppers a 5-4 lead.
"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Glenn Draper.
San Bernardino has a 3-game win streak, while Mercer Island has lost 3 in a row.
