Fur Traders Win at Springfield, 2-1
|
The Tacoma Fur Traders got a magnificent performance from pitcher Phillip Donoghue, who muffled the Springfield offense en route to a tight 2-1 Fur Traders win at Springfield Stadium. Donoghue went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 2-5. Milton Mathews converted his 17th save in 22 tries.
Vance Corkum aided the Tacoma cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the third. For the game, the designated hitter was 1-5.
In comments to the Tacoma Chronicle, Donoghue admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
Tacoma is now riding a 3-game win streak.
