Fur Traders Go Down to Defeat, 5-3
|
The San Bernardino Grasshoppers beat the Tacoma Fur Traders, 5-3, at Field of the Grasshoppers. San Bernardino first baseman Travis Towns earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. San Bernardino reliever Alberto Gómez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Phillip Donoghue. Rich Choquette finished the game for San Bernardino and earned his 1st save.
Towns contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for San Bernardino in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-0, Towns took a fastball from Phillip Donoghue and stroked the home run to right-center. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Grasshoppers to leap in front, 3-2.
"My job is to go out and play as hard as I can for the Grasshoppers," said Towns.
San Bernardino now owns a record of 10-14.
