Shuckers Solve Silver Sox, 5-3
|
Despite a fine performance by third baseman Henry Madore, the Reno Silver Sox suffered a 5-3 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers. Madore went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Bernard Cook earned the save for Biloxi, his 4th of the year. Biloxi is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 7th in 18 games.
Neville van Mierlo had a big run-scoring double for the Shuckers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Biloxi trailing 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from Dale Snider and stroked the double to left. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Shuckers ahead, 2-1.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," van Mierlo told a Biloxi News reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
