Brinkley beat Memphis on the strength of starter Rafael Bernal's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 3-2 win. Bernal picked up the win for Brinkley, going 7 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 8 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. The Belugas saw their win-loss record go to 37-40. At the same time, the Redbirds fell to 32-45.

It could have been a different outcome for Brinkley, had it not been for Vicente Romero, the former first round draft pick . Romero contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put Brinkley up, 3-1.

Romero told a Brinkley News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
