Nobles Solve Black Sox, 6-3
|
Despite a fine performance by third baseman Carlos González, the Baltimore Black Sox suffered a 6-3 loss to the Bakersfield Nobles. González was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Darby Marshall was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts. The Nobles own a robust 49-25 mark.
Bakersfield used the timely hitting of John Meléndez to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Nobles on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It feels good to get this one," Meléndez told the Bakersfield Chronicle.
