Loss to Deuces Extends Phoenix Hotspur Losing Streak
|
The Virginia Beach Deuces topped the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 13-5, at Grenadiers Ballpark. Virginia Beach third baseman Paul Byrd earned player of the game honors. He banged out 3 singles and 1 double, while driving in 1 runs. The save was credited to Eisse Tak, his 1st. Phoenix Hotspur has now lost 14 straight.
Tied up with the Youth in the top of the fourth inning, the Deuces got a boost from left fielder Ron Lawrence. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Lawrence saw a full count fastball from Felipe Filipe and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Virginia Beach on top, 4-3.
"We're in a funk right now," said Phoenix Hotspur skipper Junior Benítez.
