Nationals Jolt Youth with Late Rally
|
The Ottawa Nationals beat the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 6-5, at Nationals Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of center fielder Bartho Simonse, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. The losing skid has reached 9 games for Phoenix Hotspur.
The Nationals were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when second baseman José Bumgarnor turned a 3-1 fastball from Neal Burns into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent a roar through the crowd and gave Ottawa a thrilling 6-5 win.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Simonse, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
