Rails Need Extra Frames to Get Past Nationals
|
Richland withstood an impressive performance by Ottawa right fielder Bartho Simonse to defeat the Nationals, 7-5, at Nationals Park. Simonse was 3-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Richland reliever Chris Holmes was the winner. His record is now 1-7. The losing pitcher was Walid bin Amid. Richland now sits at 35-46, while Ottawa falls to 28-53.
Late-game drama came in the top of the 11th inning. With two out and a runner on 1st, the batter, Tak-wai Jia, hit a single. It helped Richland seize the win.
"Our team showed some spunk," said Jia.
