Rivera Helps Salem Cruise to 10-2 Win
|
The rain at Nationals Park did not keep Salem and Ottawa from finishing their game.
Getting a good performance from center fielder Nelson Rivera, the Salem Misfits defeated the Ottawa Nationals, 10-2. Rivera was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 4 times and drove in 2 for the Misfits. Dave Dunn, the winner, improved to 9-3. He held the Nationals to 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 9 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2.
Rivera had a key at-bat for Salem early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and gave Salem an early 2-0 lead.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Rivera told the Salem Today. "You win just by scoring more runs."
Salem is now 44-33, Ottawa 27-50.
