Misfits Edge Past Nationals, 3-2
|
Nationals Park was the site of a tense game between the Ottawa Nationals and Salem Misfits.
The Salem Misfits picked up a win at Nationals Park, knocking off the Ottawa Nationals, 3-2. Starting pitcher Kagiyama Shumkichi was an essential part of his team's success. Shumkichi, now 4-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run.
Salem used the bat of Damon Newbold to get the win. The third baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Misfits ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Newbold.
Salem is now 24-18, while Ottawa is 15-27.
