Manuel Ruíz did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Virginia Beach Deuces from losing, 6-5, to the Olympia Ogres at Virginia Beach Grounds. Ruíz was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. José Alfaro got the win, improving to 2-0. A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the fifth inning when the Ogres sent teenager Takeshi Kovacs to the plate against Deuces hurler Pleun Davidse. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 1-2 cutter to score 1.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Kovacs told the Olympia Times. "It's as simple as that."
