Ft. Polk South rode a fine outing from starter Lucas van Halteren to victory over the Richland Rails at Thunder Hawks Ballpark. The final score was 4-0. van Halteren, the winner, moves to 3-2. He threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 4 walks. Min-chin Kim earned the save for Ft. Polk South, his 2nd of the year.
The Thunder Hawks got a big at-bat from first baseman Shohei Otani. For the game, Otani was 3-4 with a triple and a double, while scoring 2 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring triple. His 1st triple of the season gave Ft. Polk South a 1-0 lead.
"We'll enjoy this win," said van Halteren. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The 'W' lifts Ft. Polk South's record to 17-18.
