The Asheville Highlanders beat the Salem Misfits, 8-5, at Ricochets Ballpark. The Highlanders got a fine performance from center fielder Carsello Scruggins, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4-6 with 4 doubles, while scoring 3 times. Eric Foster picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-2. Jeffery Brock was tagged with the loss. After today's action, Asheville sits at 15-16, while Salem falls to 19-12.

Scruggins had a game-changing double in the top of the tenth. On a 2-1 cutter from Jeffery Brock, he banged a run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Highlanders a 6-5 lead. It was the 4th double of the year for Scruggins.

Scruggins told the Asheville Daily News: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
