Big Day for Cooper as Youth Down Nationals, 11-4
|
The Phoenix Hotspur Youth defeated the Ottawa Nationals, 11-4, at Nationals Park today. Leading the charge for Phoenix Hotspur was first baseman Lee Cooper. He was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 4 times and drove in 6. José Correa picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 10 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 1-1. Juan Escobar closed the door for Phoenix Hotspur, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Cooper had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, when he hit a grand slam. The Youth went on to win.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Phoenix Hotspur manager Junior Benítez.
The win gives the Youth a record of 6-7.
