Belugas Turn Back Scranton, 3-2
|
The Brinkley Belugas picked up a win at Nuclear Stadium, knocking off the Scranton Supernovas, 3-2. Starting pitcher Matt Martin, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. In 8 innings, Martin surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Pedro Huerta picked up the save, his 2nd.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when right fielder Jouo Hirschovits drew a walk. The Belugas went on to win.
"If we keep winning the close games," Martin said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
Brinkley, now 2-0, has gotten their season off to a good start.
