Multi-HR Day for Burton as Blue Sox Overpower Eclipse, 4-2
|
The Irving Blue Sox bested the Northville Eclipse by a score of 4-2, with right fielder Tom Burton getting the main credit. On the day, Burton slugged 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for the Blue Sox. Irving reliever Kerry Tenner picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. Melvin Turner was saddled with the loss. José Colón, credited with the save, is now 15 for 22 in save opportunities.
Burton had a key at-bat for Irving early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 23rd home run of the season and gave Irving an early 2-0 lead.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Burton said.
With the win, the Blue Sox improved to 56-39.
