The Irving Blue Sox did just enough to sneak past the Marquette Miners, 3-2, at Marquette Stadium. Irving right fielder Tom Burton earned player of the game honors. Bob Bolen got the win, improving to 5-2. He worked 5.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 5. José Colón earned the save for Irving, his 8th of the year.
Burton had a key at-bat for Irving early in the game. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a run-scoring double. It was his 14th double of the season and gave Irving an early 1-0 lead.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Burton said.
