Late Rally by Continentals Secures Win
|
The Chesapeake Continentals defeated the Irving Blue Sox, 5-2. Earning player of the game honors was right fielder Pancho González, who slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The win was credited to Francisco Torres in relief. His record improves to 1-0. John Rigsby took the loss. Tom King closed the game out for Chesapeake, earning his 1st save.
The Continentals got a big at-bat from catcher Nick Bechtel. For the game, Bechtel went 2 for 4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run single. His 2nd hit of the season gave Chesapeake a 3-2 lead.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Bechtel said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The win gives Chesapeake a record of 1-1.
