Rapiers Get Road Win, 3-2
|
The Durham Rapiers got a stellar performance from pitcher Valentyn Hochmiller, who handcuffed the Asheville offense en route to a 3-2 win at Asheville Park. Hochmiller, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 2, walking 5, and allowing 2 earned runs. Durham, now 4-2, has played well in the early going.
Had Juan Guzmán not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Guzmán hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Rapiers.
"I felt good up there," said Guzmán. "I saw the ball well."
