Late Rally by Hotspur Reserves Secures Win
|
Sioux Falls got a terrific performance from pitcher Nassim El-Badwi, but it wasn't enough to beat the Phoenix Hotspur Reserves. Phoenix won the The Bamboo Forest contest, 4-3. El-Badwi was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. Phoenix reliever Ty McDaniel picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Roberto Calderón was saddled with the loss. Vernon Turner earned the save for Phoenix, his 7th of the year.
Valerius Buser's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With no one out, he rapped a fastball from Roberto Calderón for a 2-run home run. It put Phoenix in front, 4-3.
Buser told a Phoenix Bulletin reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
The 5th-place Red Pandas have lost 4 straight games.
