Big Day at the Plate for Watanabe Not Enough for Hotspur
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Phoenix Hotspur home opener. Leon von Stroheim started for the home team against Júlio Valenzuela for the Greenville 84s. The Hotspur were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 8-4, Greenville. Tadayoshi Watanabe was named player of the game. Reliever Kyle Buckman picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Leon von Stroheim took the loss. Brandeis Vogt locked down his 1st save.
Kanko Umaba's at-bat in the top of the fourth was significant for the 84s. Coming to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd and Greenville trailing 3-2, the left fielder grounded out, driving in 1 run.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Greenville skipper John Bosma.
