Rainbow Mermaids Stymie Houston, Take 2-1 Win

Both teams had their chances, but the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids eventually prevailed at Houston Grounds.
Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids starter Noe Toepfer was in fine form against the Houston 1837 BBC at Houston Grounds, leading his team to a 2-1 win. The Rainbow Mermaids improved to 50-52.
Had Valentín Guzmán not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Guzmán hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Rainbow Mermaids.
"Runs were at a premium," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister.
