Rainbow Mermaids Lose to Northern Lions BC, 4-1
|
It was a good time at Great Northern Field, where fans came to watch the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids and Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC get after it.
Thunder Bay starter Marnix van Rijn pitched effectively against the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids at Great Northern Field. The right-hander led his team to a 4-1 win. van Rijn, now 5-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 5, and allowing 1 earned run. Anatoly Ivanovich earned the save, his 11th.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, catcher Sébastien Cornu came through big-time for the Northern Lions BC. With Thunder Bay leading 2-1, he belted a solo home run.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Cornu.
Thunder Bay is now 37-57, Northern Virginia 45-49.
