Fire Stop Davis at 23

Phoenix shortstop Brit Davis came into today's game against the Franklin Fire on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.

The Fire did their jobs well, beating the Phoenix Hotspur Academy 6-5 and holding Davis hitless to snap his 23-game hitting streak. The 21-year-old shortstop had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-5, telling reporters only that he "came up short."

"What Brit did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Hotspur Academy manager Mike Evans. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 23 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."

This year Davis has collected a .366 batting average to date with 59 hits in 161 at-bats, 30 RBIs, 7 home runs and scored 30 times. He has played in 39 games.
