Philadelphia 1776 Snaps Álvarez's Streak at 20
Sunday, September 24th, 2034
For 20 straight games, Mario Álvarez tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy.

Well, the 26-year-old Chicago Gold Sox second baseman can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Philadelphia 1776 BC. The BC held him hitless in 3 at-bats at Gold Sox Field today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 20.

There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Gold Sox took the win by the score of 3-2.

"I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now."

Álvarez is hitting .281 this year with 1 home run and 36 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .317, 23 walks and scored 47 times.
