Evergreens Come Back Late to Clip Bowties
|
The Portland Evergreens overcame a good performance by Buckhead third baseman Yu-zeng Si to knock off Buckhead, 6-4, at 5 Paces Park. Si was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs. Portland improves to 10-8 as they look to defend their championship.
In the top of the 8th, pinch hitter John Schaefer gave Portland the lead when he hit a 3-run home run. The Evergreens had been trailing 4-3, but the two-out home run off Buckhead pitcher Brian Fixel changed that -- and Portland went on to win.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Schaefer. "And not try to do too much."
