Road Win Lifts Alaskan to 1-0 Lead in R1
|
If the Augusta Timber Hawks were expecting the pressure of the playoffs to get to Adrián Fierro, they underestimated the old man.
The Alaskan Humpbacks got a strong start from the 40-year-old right-hander, who earned player of the game honors today. Fierro threw 7 innings allowing 2 runs as Alaskan won the contest 6-2 at Timber Hawks Ballpark to take the lead in their best-of-5 series with the Timber Hawks. The Humpbacks now lead 1-0.
Tied up with the Timber Hawks in the top of the fourth inning, the Humpbacks got a boost from center fielder Sigi Lang. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Lang saw a 2-0 fastball from Coy Broderick and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Alaskan on top, 1-0.
Fierro told a Alaskan News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Timber Hawks Ballpark in Augusta. Slated to start are Liam Thomson for Alaskan and Won-u Yi for Augusta.
