Walla Walla Walleye manager Rafael Clemente knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 22-year-old left-hander Maik van Osch silenced the host South Beach Blaze at The Ballpark on the Beach today. The Walleye shut out the Blaze by a final score of 2-0, to give the Walleye a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 PL A Championship.

van Osch, who was born in Sint Nicolas, Aruba, threw 98 pitches over 7 innings, while allowing no earned runs.

"Nervous? No," said van Osch. "It was my time to shine."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at The Ballpark on the Beach in South Beach. Slated to start are Ricky Parker for the Walla Walla Walleye and Aaron Corrigan for the the South Beach Blaze.
