Late Rally by Harbor Whales Secures Win
|
The Greenport Harbor Whales faced a tough opponent in Ballard pitcher Steve Barnett, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Ballpark of Robbins by a final score of 2-0. Barnett went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. The win was credited to Guillermo Pérez in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Barney Padgett took the loss. Sylvain Millot got the save, his 1st in 1 chances.
Had Ernesto Rivera not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Rivera hit a 2-run single. That made the score 2-0, in favor of the Harbor Whales.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Harbor Whales manager Lockwood Rose. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Even with the win, the Harbor Whales have a dismal 21-66 record.
