Cajuns Continue Skid Thanks to Sánchez, Pizza Rats
|
Behind a solid performance from catcher Carlos Sánchez, the Staten Island Pizza Rats defeated the Crowley Cajuns, 7-1. Sánchez went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Pizza Rats. Marnix de Jonge got the win, improving to 6-9. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The slumping Cajuns have lost 7 straight.
The Pizza Rats got a big at-bat from first baseman Ismael Soto. For the game, Soto went 2 for 5 with 2 singles. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 102nd hit of the season gave Staten Island a 2-1 lead.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Soto said after the game.
