The Ellesmere Island Snowpeople picked up a win at Corpus Christi Grounds, knocking off the Memphis Music, 6-1. Starting pitcher Ipe de Deugd, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Kosami Matsumoto was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 6 save opportunities. The Snowpeople raised their record to 40-50.
The Snowpeople got a big at-bat from catcher Feng-yi Wen. For the game, Wen was 2 for 4 with a triple and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 2nd triple of the season gave Ellesmere Island a 2-1 lead.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Snowpeople manager Sherwood Baker, "I like our chances."
