Big Day for Nakamura as Mermen Down Fire, 8-5
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Katsuyuki Nakamura, the Newcastle Mermen defeated the Franklin Fire, 8-5. Nakamura went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Mermen. Newcastle reliever Philip Courtenay was credited with the win, to go to 1-2. Chun-yeong Byung-Ho took the loss for Franklin. The Mermen' win now puts them at 10-21.

Newcastle used the clutch hitting of John Ryan to capture the win. The center fielder drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Mermen the lead, 6-5. For the game, Ryan had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Newcastle manager Harris Bailey.
