Great Day for van Opdorp in Mermen Win
The Newcastle Mermen grabbed a 7-2 win over the Germantown Uruguayans at Newcastle Stadium. Newcastle designated hitter Garm van Opdorp was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 to earn player of the game honors. Newcastle starter Kini Grinter was credited with the win after throwing 107 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 2-2. The Uruguayans, now 10-8, continue their sluggish start.

van Opdorp had a big at-bat with runners on 1st and 3rd in the bottom of the sixth inning, when he hit a 2-run double. The Mermen went on to win.
