Newcastle right-hander Kini Grinter pitched his team to victory over the Franklin Fire at Newcastle Stadium. The final score was 9-3. Grinter, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. Earning his 2nd save for Newcastle was Ron Harris.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied, Estanislao Hirigoyen was at the plate when Newcastle scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Mermen to go in front, 3-1.

"We'll savor this win," Hirigoyen told the Newcastle Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."

Losses have been few and far between for the Fire, who are now 8-3.
