Franklin rode a good effort from starter Kohei Nishikawa to beat the Newcastle Mermen at Newcastle Stadium. The final score was 6-1. Nishikawa, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up no walks. The Fire, now 8-2, have stormed out of the gates.

Peter Holland, who was drafted in the two round of the 2032 draft, aided the Franklin cause with a 2-run single in the top of the seventh. For the game, the shortstop was 1 for 4 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Nishikawa.
