Mermen Hope Win Turns Around Slow Start

Newcastle and Ladue duked it out at Ballpark of Wellsville and the Mermen came out victorious.
Ladue second baseman Noel Peterson had a good game, even if his team did not. The Rams dropped a 10-7 decision to Newcastle at Ballpark of Wellsville. Peterson was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Ron Harris picked up the save for Newcastle, his 1st of the year.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the seventh inning when the Mermen sent teenager Garm van Opdorp to the plate against Rams hurler Alfonso Caballero. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 3-1 cutter to score 1.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Harris Bailey said.
Losses have been rare for the Rams, who are now 7-2.
