Cougars Knock Off Clippers, 7-5
|
Benefiting from Gene Payne's productive game, the Valley View Cougars downed the San Diego Clippers, 7-5. Payne was 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Cougars. Valley View reliever Michinori Nakamura was credited with the win, to go to 1-2. Jerry Cherry took the loss for San Diego. Peter Routledge got credit for the save for Valley View. It was his 4th of the year.
Payne had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, when he got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run. The Cougars went on to win.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Valley View manager Reggie Adams.
The 6th-place Clippers have dropped 4 straight games.
