Clippers Need Extra Frames to Get Past Shockers
The San Diego Clippers topped the Surprise Shockers, 9-5, with youngster Cleveland Mortimer playing a key role. Mortimer was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Clippers in the win. San Diego reliever César Sandoval was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was José Castro. With the win, San Diego improves its record to 3-0.

San Diego won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With one out and José Castro on the mound for Surprise, pinch hitter Luis López hit a dramatic grand slam home run, bringing Clippers fans to their feet.
