1787 BC Fall Short at Provo
|
The Provo Mango did just enough to secure a 2-1 victory over the Delaware 1787 BC at Mango Yard. Nobody did more than pitcher Aatu Valkki, who captured player of the game honors. Valkki got the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 6 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. Valkki allowed 1 earned run. The winning streak has now reached 5 games for the Mango.
Had António Amaya not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Amaya hit a 2-run double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Mango.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Amaya told the Provo Today.
